" I have a choice "

You Always Have A Choice…

“It is not what happens that determines the major part of your future. What happens, happens to us all. It is what you do about what happens that counts.”
It’s easy to dismiss it because you’ve heard this a thousand times… but the question is…
…Are You Doing It?
It’s not what happens TO you, but what happens IN you… or how you RESPOND to it…
… that’s what’s going to have a major impact on the quality of your life, relationships, health, wealth and pretty much anything else you can think of.
Zig Ziglar says that most people REACT to situations, while some people RESPOND.
We want to train ourselves to respond and not always be reacting.
Easy To Say… NOT So Easy To Do.
Life doesn’t happen to us in a classroom, with everyone cheering you on. Often situations arise creating the most adverse circumstances… and in these moments when you have to make decisions about your next steps… lay the foundation of your future success.
But it’s not just the big things, it’s often the little things that happen to us all on a daily basis that can really get our attitudes off track.
Someone cuts you off in traffic, or you get an annoying phone call OR…
Doesn’t matter… the point is, a little thing like that CAN and often DOES spark a moment of anger in virtually all of us, until you can train and discipline yourself to RESPOND in a more empowering way.
Bringing it closer to the business side, when a call doesn’t go your way… a customer cancels… a recruit quits…
… you get a nasty email from someone on your list telling you they’ll report you to FBI because you’re trying to scam people… or something crazy like that .
You’ve had nasty emails from people right?
If you haven’t yet, your list is probably not big enough.
Now it used to REALLY get under my skin.
But I had to reflect on things I learned LONG ago, to NOT take anything personally.
Which is virtually IMPOSSIBLE… but you can reframe how you look at it.
If they say no or worst… it’s not YOU they’re rejecting, but really what you’re offering.
And if they feel like taking their anger out people, it’s really their problem not yours.
A lot of people find it difficult in dealing with others like that, but when you train yourself to respond differently… like – Hey so what, it’s not the kind of person I want to deal with ANYWAY… life becomes so much easier.
What all this really does is develop your mental toughness… a necessary ingredient for success.
